More about the class: Zazen is an embodied meditation practice, and yoga is a complimentary meditative body practice, which work together to enable a deeper spiritual connection with the world around us. Just as in Zazen, moving through yoga positions in a controlled, mindful manner helps us to establish the heart-mind connection needed to bring peace and contentment into our lives.
We bring a balanced fusion of Yin and Yang yoga into our practice. The class begins with a series of hatha poses (yang) to warm the muscles and connecting tissues. In Hatha yoga, we move slowly and intentionally, holding each pose for several breaths, allowing us to focus on the proper alignment of each posture while building strength and flexibility in our bodies. We will continue with several Yin postures, letting gravity take over in passive poses held for 3-5 minutes to achieve deep stretches in targeted Yin tissues. Yin postures allow time to relax deeply while promoting joint mobility and fascia health. Pranayama breathing exercises are also incorporated into the class.
This class is designed to be accessible for the novice as well as challenging for the experienced yogi. There are many options and modifications for each pose to offer accessibility to any age, body type, and flexibility level. Just bring a yoga mat, towel, and a blanket or bolster to help settle into Yin poses. A limited number of clean mats, blankets and bolsters will be available for those needing them
