Join us at MZMC as noted polar explorer Will Steger speaks about the place of Zen practice in his remarkable life. He will show slides, show a short video, and lead a discussion.
Will Steger led the first confirmed dogsled journey to the North Pole without re-supply in 1986, the 1,600-mile south-north traverse of Greenland in 1988, and the first dogsled traverse of Antarctica in 1989–90. He has been a tireless advocate for preserving the polar regions, addressing the climate crisis, and living sustainably. He has designed the Steger Wilderness Center, a place for the promotion of ecological stewardship, in Ely, Minnesota.
Will Steger spent an extended period of time at Mount Baldy Zen Center in Southern California during his youth. This will be the first time he has made a public presentation about his relationship with Zen practice.
Tea will be served after the presentation, and Will's books will be available for signing and purchase. All are welcome to join us! The suggested donation is $20; it can be larger or smaller as your budget allows. Proceeds will be split between MZMC and the Steger Wilderness Center.
