Audio Archive Project

Katagiri Roshi talks

The Dainin Katagiri Audio Archive Project endeavors to preserve the teachings of Katagiri Roshi by digitizing talks that he gave at the Minnesota Zen Meditation Center and Hokyoji monastery from 1972 to 1989. A collection of those talks is available here and through iTunes. There is no charge to listen to these recordings, but donations to the ongoing project are greatly appreciated. Watch for more talks coming soon, or subscribe to the Katagiri podcast.

Many of Katagiri Roshi's lectures were recorded, and we have most of the original audiotapes. In an effort to preserve these treasures, Andrea Martin is coordinating the daunting task of digitizing them. The results are amazingly crisp and clear, especially considering that many of the tapes are over 20 years old! Many thanks to Andrea; it is a great blessing to be able to hear Katagiri's voice along with his teachings. Click here to view talks and listen.

A word on listening to the recordings:
Katagiri Roshi's talks were recorded on both sides of cassette tapes, so in some longer recordings you will encounter short gaps that were created when the tapes were turned over. These are old recordings made using simple equipment in spaces with poor acoustics. During the digitization process we try to improve the audio quality, but not all of the recordings offer an ideal listening experience.
