As I write to you today, I realize how deeply grateful I am that our community is devoted and strong after coming through the pandemic and building renovation. I am also grateful that we have been able to balance the budget each year for decades and to complete our expansion using only short-term loans, which are now paid in full.
After the big push to renovate the building, and the celebration of our fifty-year anniversary, it is time to turn our attention to financial support for our regular programming and ongoing expenses. Thus, we are pleased to announce the beginning of our 2022-2023 membership and donation season! This is an opportunity to maintain our programming and share this beautiful practice more widely.
This year, in response to requests by the community, we have combined our financial campaigns into one. As you may have noticed, we have not done any other fundraising this year. If we can reach our goal in this season, we expect to be in a position to not need another fundraising campaign for an entire year.
Because we didn’t do any other appeal during the year, we are asking current members to consider an increase in their giving. We’re hoping that you can fold the amount you would have given to additional campaigns into your annual gift.
We are asking those who are not members to consider becoming one and making an ongoing pledge to support MZMC.
We are hoping to raise $175,000 to cover our annual operating budget. To give you an idea of how this translates into monthly giving, we could raise the needed amount if 200 members pledged $72 per month.
At MZMC I’ve noticed that, with our many volunteer roles, if someone needs to step back because of personal circumstances, someone else will step forward, and the work always gets done. That is the case financially, as well. We want everyone to give what feels right and works for them. We don’t want anyone to feel that they can’t become a member because of their financial circumstances. At the same time, if you are able to share more, you can help provide access or support to others who are not in a position to give. Together, we can ensure a sound basis for another 50 years of sharing the dharma!
