Joya no Kane

Joya no Kane: The Tolling Bell Ceremony on New Year's Eve

A Hybrid Event on December 31, 2022
9:30 p.m. to 12:15 a.m.
All are welcome!
Join through Zoom
https://us02web.zoom.us/j/86174871005?pwd=NkRSY1U0UWlwRnZZNXU4VGhEVHYxdz09

We will be performing the traditional Buddhist temple ritual to usher in the New Year by ringing a bell 108 times. Each ring of the bell dispels one of the 108 worldly desires that have caused suffering during the year that is ending. We bid farewell to that suffering and anticipate starting fresh in the new year. 107 bells will ring leading up to midnight, and the 108th is rung right at midnight.

We will start the evening with a snack potluck at 9:30 p.m. for those attending in person.  We will welcome our zoom attendees at 11:00 p.m. just before we start ringing the bell at 11:06 p.m. While the doan rings the large bell at MZMC and live-streams on Zoom, we can join in by ringing a bell at home.
