About this retreat: This retreat at Hokyoji, in the bluff country of southeastern Minnesota, is an opportunity to practice surrounded by nature, far from the distractions of city life. We alternate sitting and walking meditation throughout the day, along with daily dharma talks, one-to-one meetings with the teachers, vegetarian meals, a work period, and outdoor group meditation walks. Bring camping gear or sleep in dorm-like accommodations. You will receive an email with detailed information several days prior to the retreat.
About Guest Teacher Ven. Thuan Bach
Venerable Thuan Bach was born in 1945 in Vietnam and came to the US in 2000. She holds a BS in Chemistry from University of Saigon; she is also fluent in French. She was ordained in 1986 by the Most Venerable Thich Thanh Tu who revived the Vietnamese Zen tradition. Her strong faith and intense Zen monastic training deepened her understanding of the Dharma, resulting in roles such as former abbess of the Dieu Nhan Zen Monastery and dharma teacher for many monastics and various Buddhist schools. She also led numerous Zen retreats for lay people around the world.
